Humla District Headquarter Without Electricity for Almost A Week

Kathmandu: Electricity supply to Simikot, headquarter of the Humla district, has been disrupted for the past five days owing to problems at Hildum Distribution Center of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).

Krishna Prasad Oli, information officer at the NEA's Distribution Centre, said the electricity service has been disrupted after a problem was detected in the control system of Unit 9 of the power house on Tuesday. According to him, the technical problems cannot be fixed immediately as the Humla-based distribution unit does not have required manpower in line.

Issuing a public notice, the NEA has clarified that the electricity service will be disrupted until further notice. "It is likely to take some more time to solve the current problem till the arrival of skilled technicians," said Oli.

The government and non-government offices, banking and financial institutions, media, entrepreneurs, health offices and general public have been facing sheer inconvenience for lack of electricity. However, few government offices have managed solar energy to meet the demands of service seekers.

The daily life of the general public has been affected due to the indefinite disruption of electricity service in the headquarter of the remote district. The locals have demanded that alternative arrangements be made immediately and the electricity supply be brought into operation. In addition, they demand that a long-term solution be found to the frequent power problems in Humla.
