SOPPAN Commits to Collaborative Action for Clean Energy Transition

Kathmandu : The Solar Power Producers’ Association, Nepal (SOPPAN) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting clean energy and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by working in close collaboration with the government and relevant stakeholders. The commitment was expressed on the occasion of the International Day for Clean Energy.

Observed every year on January 26 following a declaration by the United Nations, the day highlights clean energy as a key foundation for climate change mitigation, pollution control, and ensuring equitable access to energy for all. At a time when around 666 million people worldwide still lack access to electricity, the importance of solar, hydropower, wind, and other innovative clean energy solutions continues to grow.

SOPPAN Founder President Dr. Sandip Shah described clean energy as “a foundation of dignity, opportunity, and sustainability for future generations,” calling on the government, private sector, and communities to accelerate the clean energy transition. “Clean energy is not just a technology; it is a commitment to dignity, opportunity, and sustainability for generations to come,” he said. “We are committed to supporting Nepal’s energy transition through advocacy, collaboration, and awareness.”

SOPPAN stated that it has been promoting grid-stabilizing solar power projects and agriculture-integrated energy models in various parts of Nepal, with Sustainable Development Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) at the core of its initiatives. The association believes these efforts contribute to energy security, food security, rural employment, and climate resilience.
