Kathmandu: The 140 MW Tanahun Hydropower Project, being developed in Rishing Rural Municipality-1 of Tanahun, has entered the final stage of construction of its major structures, including the underground powerhouse.

According to the project, the installation of the powerhouse, tunnels and related equipment under Package-2 of the project has reached about 80 percent completion. The construction of Package-2 is being carried out through China's Sino Hydro Corporation.

Project Chief Shyamji Bhandari informed that the excavation work required for the construction of the underground structures has been completed, while the civil construction of most of the structures has been completed.

The excavation and concreting of the main structures, including the underground powerhouse, tailrace tunnel, cable tunnel, surge shaft, intake and draft tube tunnel, and backfill concreting of the penstock, have almost been concluded. Bhandari also informed that the concrete lining work of the main tunnel has reached its final stage.

The installation and testing of electromechanical equipment including generators, turbines, CCTV, transformers and other necessary equipment for electricity generation in the underground power house is underway.

Similarly, the construction of the power house and dam operation building to be built for environmental flow is also ongoing. The project has stated that the work of installing and testing equipment has been taken forward along with the construction of civil structures.

After the construction of structures and equipment under Package-2 is completed, the necessary infrastructure will be ready for the operation of the project's electricity generation system.
