Kathmandu; The International Hydropower Conference, which is bringing in a large number of experts and stakeholders at a platform to discuss on the issues related to hydropower and green energy, is starting from Monday.

The two-day mega event is being organized by the Nepal Hydropower Association (NHA) in collaboration with the International Hydropower Association (IHA). Arun Rajauria, general secretary of the NHA, said national and international high level delegates will be participating in the conference.

According to him, the conference will focus on various aspects like policy, power trade, private sector and sustainability standards, advanced technology and innovation as well as the future of hydropower in partnership with major stakeholders including the Government of Nepal, donor organizations, NGOs, consulting firms, contractors and manufacturers. 

According to the organizer, the conference will host five sessions. On Monday, two sessions will be conducted. The first session entitled ‘Sustainable Hydropower Development Policy: Fueling the Growth’ will be hosted by the World Bank. Similarly, the USAID will host the second session ‘Unlocking Regional Hydropower Trade.’

The second day of the conference will begin with the session ‘Hydropower Standards’ to be hosted by the European Investment Bank. The second session to be hosted by the Asian Development Bank will discuss ‘Financial Hydropower.’ The NHA will host the final session entitled ‘Future of Hydropower.’

Overall, the conference will highlight the scope of hydropower development as a clean, green, and sustainable source of development in Nepal. The platform will also bring forth the discussion on power trade and power utilization prospects of the country, the organizer said.
