The power supplied through the national transmission grid has reached Hongshi Cement Industry, which is operating in Sardi of Binayi Tribeni Rural Municipality, Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East) in partnership between Chinese and Nepali investors.

Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) supplied electricity to the industry from Saturday through the Bardaghat-Sardi 132 kV transmission line from the substation in Bardaghat, said a press statement of NEA.

The transmission line and substation were charged in Saturday evening and electricity was supplied to the industry.
In the presence of NEA team, including NEA’s member of the Board of Directors Bhakta Bahadur Pun and Managing Director Kul Man Ghising, the transmission line was charged followed by supply of electricity to the industry.

Hongshi Cement Industry will consume about 30 MW of electricity. The industry, which is planning to increase production capacity, will need additional 50 MW of electricity.

The electricity has been supplied to the industry directly through 132 kV transmission line. For this, the industry has taken power supply by connecting 31.5 MVA capacity transformer on its premises.

The tariff of 132 kV is cheaper than that of customers who get power supply from 11 and 33 kV transmission lines. The industry was supplying electricity by using 14 diesel plants with a capacity of 1.4 MW in lack of the reach of national grid.
The industry has been consuming 60,000 litres of diesel daily to operate industries by using diesel plants.

Managing Director Ghising said that even though the construction of the transmission line has not been completed yet due to many problems such as land use in the forest area and obstruction of locals, alternative arrangements have been made to supply electricity to Hongshi Cement.

The industry has been provided electricity by making alternative arrangements after the construction of Bardaghat-Sardi 132 kV transmission line project being constructed for Hongshi Cement Industry was delayed.

Electricity has been provided to Hongshi Cement by 'tapping' the Bardaghat-Bharatpur 220 kV transmission line in Binayi Tribeni Rural Municipality-2 Dumkibas of Nawalparasi.

The NEA has provided electricity to the industry by charging the completed sections of Bardaghat-Bharatpur 220 kV and Bardaghat-Sardi 132 kV transmission lines, NEA said.

"We are supplying as much electricity as the big industries demand to increase the domestic consumption of electricity produced within the country. The work is being carried out as part of a campaign to increase the capacity of transmission and distribution lines and substations for quality, reliable and adequate power supply, the results of which will be seen soon,” said Ghising.

He said that the government would continue to review electricity tariffs in a timely manner to encourage the establishment of large industries.
