Guwahati: From providing free electricity upto 30 units in all households for three months to appointing athlete Hima Das as DSP, the Assam cabinet chaired by CM Sarbananda Sonowal took a number of key decisions on Wednesday night.
The assembly elections is likely to be held in April-May. The cabinet also decided to amend the integrated sports policy of the state by appointing sportspersons as Class I and Class II Officers in different departments of the state like police, excise and transport, government spokesman and industry minister Chandra Mohan Patowary told reporters after the meeting. Medal winners in Olympics, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games will be appointed
as Class 1 officers.
The other key decisions of the cabinet include drafting a cyber security policy for the state and setting up a mini secretariat in Silchar.
It also decided on adopting energy conservation building code, providing service benefits to employees of municipal boards, renaming ths hills areas department as Assam Sixth Schedule council department and renaming the public works department as Lok Nirman Bibhag.
Besides, it has also been decided to allot land to different organisations, including the Guwahati Press Club, and set up a new campus of Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra at Dibrugarh. Further, approval was given to set up Administrative Staff College in Bodoland and Sixth Schedule areas.
The mini secretariat in Silchar will start with personnel, revenue and disaster management, GAD, agriculture, fishery and animal husbandry and veterinary departments.
