Kathmandu: The Nepal Society of Engineering Geology (NSEG) has elected a new executive committee under the presidency of Prof. Dr. Kumud Raj Kafle. The committee was formed during the NSEG’s 7th Annual General Meeting held on Sunday (October 12, 2025).

The newly elected executive committee comprises Dr. Kanchan Chaulagain as Vice President, Ujjwal Krishna Raghuwanshi as Secretary, Sanjeeb Regmi as Joint Secretary, and Prabin Upadhyay Kandel as Treasurer. Likewise, Dhruva Tiwari and Anil Kumar Chaudhary have been elected as a members. The NSEG informed that Dr. Ranjan Kumar Dahal, the immediate past president, continues to play an advisory role.

As per the NSEG  constitution, the new committee will nominate three additional members to complete the executive body. The Society further stated that the new committee was elected unopposed for the upcoming term. According to NSEG, the newly elected team comprises distinguished professionals and scholars who have made significant contributions to higher education, research, and collaboration both in Nepal and abroad. The Society expects the new leadership to play a key role in advancing the development of engineering geology in Nepal.

Established in 2018, the Society aims to promote the practice and application of engineering geology in Nepal, encourage research and collaboration, and ensure the integration of geological knowledge in infrastructure development and disaster risk reduction.

Currently, the Society is preparing to host the 15th Asian Regional Conference (ARC-15) of the International Association for Engineering Geology and the Environment (IAEG). The event is scheduled to take place in Kathmandu from November 27 to 29, 2025. This prestigious conference is expected to serve as a major platform for scientific exchange and professional networking among engineering geologists and geotechnical experts from across Asia and around the world.

In the lead-up to the conference, NSEG has also announced pre-conference workshops and training programs, which will offer valuable opportunities for capacity building among engineering geologists, geotechnical engineers, and disaster risk management professionals. With new leadership and growing national and international collaboration, the Society continues to play a pioneering role in promoting engineering geology for the development of safe, sustainable, and disaster-resilient infrastructure in Nepal and the Himalayan region.
