Kathmandu; Malaysia-based investment holding company Serba Dinamik International Limited (SDIL) has requested the government of Nepal to ease foreign direct investment and create a conducive environment for investors. During a meeting with the Minister of Energy Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, last week, vice-president of SDIL’s Special project division, Nazrin Nasir said that the firm was looking for investment opportunities in the hydropower and ICT sector in Nepal. “We need the support of the government so that we can continue with Nepali firms with confidence,” he said. SDIL has already invested in Hydro Village Pvt Ltd (HVPL) to develop and operate the 57.3-megawatt Myagdi Khola Hydropower Project.
During the meeting, the Managing Director of HVPL, Sushil Pokharel, said, “We are happy to welcome the globally renowned company in Nepal. We are confident that this partnership will help pave the way to bring in more investment and technical expertise in the country in the hydropower sector.”
Minister Rayamajhi said that as Nepal has not been able to tap the tremendous energy sector opportunity and FDI was the government’s priority. “Government of Nepal is working for the master plan for a transmission line for 50 years, which is in the final stage,” he further shared that the government was also focusing on cross-border power export with India, China, and Bangladesh.
